Archers Stick Close with Holy Cross

Archers Stick Close with Holy Cross

On Saturday, November 11th, the Moody basketball team travelled once again to Indiana to play Holy Cross University. This was game 4 of 5 in their away-game stretch to start the season, all being NAIA schools. But the difference in division could not be clearly seen in this matchup.

The first half was a battle of runs. Holy Cross took the first run, getting an early lead of 6 points to start the game. Moody responded with their own run, brining the game within 1 point 8 minutes into the game. This back and forth went on for the remainder of the half, but Holy Cross was able to sustain their momentum a tad better than Moody and ended the half up 11.

The second half was the best half Moody has put together this season. They made some adjustments on defense and continued to share the rock to lighten the scoring load Christian Pollard took the first half. It was a lower scoring half than the first, and Moody was able to supress Holy Cross's scoring by 13 points. Theirs was only supressed by 3. The Archers were able to keep the second half within 1 point, but the 11 point differential in the first came back to bite them. They lost by 12, 49-61.

Although this is another loss for the Archers, this was the best game they have played this season. They dramatically improved their ball security, having only 8 turnovers the whole game. They were also able to get Christian Pollard jumpstarted, almost doubling his scoring for the season in one game. They still had trouble being efficient from the freethrow line and inside the 3, but they are hopefull the shooting will come as the season progresses. The real highlight of this game was the Archers' defense. They generated double-digit steals, winning the turnover margin, and they held an NAIA school to 61 points. Hopefully, the play from this game, escpecially the defense, will carry into the next week as they play Emmaus away and host East West, Williams Baptist, and Fontbonne. GO ARCHERS!
