History of the Solheim Center

Solheim Athletic Center

The Solheim Center, dedicated Jan. 30, 1991, serves as an athletic recreation, fitness, and sports ministry facility for Moody Bible Institute. This multi-level building totals 70,000 square feet. Outside the building is a full-sized soccer field and tennis courts.

The Solheim Center is named in honor of Karsten and Louise Solheim, longtime friends of Moody. Mr. Solheim was an inventor and the developer of Ping Golf Clubs. Until 1995, he was also president of Karsten Manufacturing (Phoenix, Arizona), a company that produces golf equipment and materials for the aerospace industry.

Mr. and Mrs. Solheim have taken a special interest in the development of Solheim Center as a life sciences and urban outreach center for Moody.
