Grace Christian Tri-Match Recap

Grace Christian Tri-Match Recap

The Archers traveled to Michigan this past weekend to play in a Tri-Match against Kyuper College and Grace Christian University.

The Archers, the only NCCAA Midwest Region team without a senior on their roster, started the Kuyper match quickly, outscoring the Cougars 8-1 to finish the first set. After claiming the second set, Moody played its best volleyball of the young season in the third set, dominating Kuyper with a mix of strong serving, passing, defense, and attacking.

Outside hitters Grace Vahey and junior Kiarra Henkel led the offense with 11 kills apiece, while freshman opposite hitter Olivia Reid added four kills. Junior setter Hayley Williams dished out 22 assists and registered five digs, while Henkel and Vahey added a combined 15 digs and Abby Clinton rang up two blocks in a stout team defensive effort. Joy Marquardt spurred an outstanding serving effort by the Archers with seven aces, while Clinton and Vahey added three aces each.

After the dominant win, the Archers had no time to rest, facing Grace Christian 30 minutes later that same night. Moody battled hard throughout the match, extending the Tigers to numerous long rallies thanks to its relentless defense, but the host school and defending NCCAA Midwest Region champions prevailed 25-10, 25-6, 25-10. Freshman outside hitter Grace Vahey led Moody with two kills and seven digs. Sophomore middle hitters Joy Marquardt and Abby Clinton added two kills and one solo block apiece.
