Moody Soccer Edges Maranatha

The Moody men’s soccer team moves to 4-4 on the season with a 1-0 win over #6 ranked Maranatha Baptist University on Tuesday. Senior midfielder Dani Martinez scored the game’s only goal in the 20th minute.

 

The goal began with a long ball from freshman goalkeeper Kaden McCloughan, which was flicked on by senior striker Will Snyder. Martinez collected the ball behind Maranatha’s defensive line and slotted it into the bottom left corner.

 

The Archers has the upper hand throughout the game, outshooting Maranatha 29-16, and hitting the post on four shots through the course of the afternoon.

 

“I’m so proud of the guys for going out and getting the result today against a team we have so much history with,” said Archers coach Jon Forsythe. “While it wasn’t the most beautiful game we have ever played, I appreciate the grit that we displayed today.”

 

Prior to the game, Maranatha was ranked 6th in the NCCAA national poll. Moody was ranked 10th.

 

The Archers host St. Mary’s College of the Woods on Saturday for senior day.
