Deac, Schwartzbauer named NCCAA Volleyball Scholar Athletes

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced that two members of the Moody Bible Institute women’s volleyball team, Sophia Schwartzbauer and Anais Deac, earned scholar athlete honors for the 2023 NCCAA Division II season.

The scholar athlete designation is awarded to student-athletes who excelled in the classroom and on the court during the fall women’s volleyball season. Schwartzbauer, a junior from Menasha, Wisconsin, is a women’s ministry major who served as one of the team’s captains. The 5-foot-11 outside hitter/middle hitter led the Archers in kills and blocks this fall. She was also named to the NCCAA Division II all-Midwest Region second team.

Deac, a graduate student at Moody Theological Seminary, was the starting setter for Moody this past season. In her final season at Moody, the Chicago native paced the Archers in assists and helped the team reach the semifinals of the NCCAA Midwest Region championships November 3 at the Solheim Center. The Archers defeated Kuyper College in three sets before a loss to Grace Christian University ended their season. Grace Christian then prevailed in three sets over Maranatha Baptist University to capture the Midwest Region title and advance to the NCCAA Division II national tournament.
